Propecia

Propecia (finasteride) is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used by many men in the world to stop losing hair and re-grow it. It is prescribed for the cases of male pattern hair loss that can affect even males that are quite young. The active ingredient of this drug – finasteride – can be absorbed through skin and cause harm to an unborn baby if handled by a pregnant woman. Every tablet of Propecia is coated to prevent the active ingredient finasteride from being absorbed by the skin. If a woman comes into contact with a crushed tablet of Propecia, wash the area affected with soapy water and contact your health care provider as soon as possible. Some conditions may affect the efficiency of your treatment with Propecia or even cause unwanted side effects. These include stricture of the urethra, bladder muscle disorder, prostate cancer, inability to urinate, liver disease and a number of others. If you have any of the conditions mentioned – it’s very important to tell your health care provider about them. Your dose may need to be adjusted or additional tests will be recommended to provide for the safety and efficiency of your treatment. Mild and serious side effects are possible when taking Propecia, and you need to be aware of the possibility of developing male breast cancer. Although this is quite a rare side effect reported by only a small number of patients, you need to know the following signs of it: breast pain, breast lumps, nipple discharge, or any other breast changes. Make sure you inform your health care provider of any of the serious symptoms mentioned. In most cases however, this medicine is tolerated very well and just a few mild side effects are possible, such as pain in the testicles, runny nose, swelling or tenderness in your breasts, decreased sexual desire, impotence, headache, and decreased amount of semen. Also make sure you tell your health care provider if you are taking vitamins, herbal products, nutritional supplements, prescription and nonprescription medications. You will need to be taking Propecia for as long as you want it to have beneficial effects. Up to three months may be required for you to notice the first results of the treatment. Once you stop taking Propecia, all the progress achieved will be lost within a 12 month period. Propecia is supposed to e stored in some dark cool place where other people will be unable to get access to it, as dangerous health effects can happen in such people if they have any contraindications.
